A square hand-carry gift box built for Chinese New Year hampers. Three equal sides, a lid that lifts off, and a printed ribbon handle fixed through the side panel, so the box is carried on its own without a paper bag.
It ships flat and folds into shape by hand. Standard sizes are 205, 230 and 250 mm on each side.

Three equal sides do more than look different
A hamper box that is wide and shallow needs the contents to fill the floor. A cube does not.
Stand a 230 mm cube next to a flat box holding the same volume and the cube reads as the bigger gift. That matters in a market where the box is opened in front of relatives at an open house, and the impression is made before anyone reaches the cookies.
The height keeps things upright as well. Jars, tins and bottles stay standing instead of sliding into each other, so the arrangement you pack is the arrangement that arrives.
The handle is part of the box
The ribbon runs through the side panel and is anchored on the inside. Nothing is attached at the last minute, and there is no separate paper bag to buy, stuff and hand over at the door.
Stock ribbons carry a printed line. On custom runs the ribbon colour, width and print follow your artwork.
Flat-packed, and what that saves
Every box leaves the factory folded flat and is opened by hand before filling.
A carton holds several times the number of boxes it would if they travelled assembled. That is where most of the freight saving sits, and it is the main reason a box made in Wenzhou can land cheaper than the same box bought from local stock in Singapore.
Folding is a short job for a packing team: open the body, fold the base flaps, set the lid on. We send a short video with the first order so the team can see it done once.
If you want the numbers behind this, our note on how folding boxes cut shipping costs walks through the volume difference.
What fits inside
- 205 mm cube — around 1 kg of bak kwa in sealed packs, two or three cookie tubs, tea tins, or a bottle with snacks around it.
- 230 mm cube — the standard corporate hamper: cookies, tea, a jar of something, and a card.
- 250 mm cube — four to six items, or tinned abalone and dried seafood with cookies packed on top.
If you are filling with your own product and the fit looks tight, send the pack dimensions and we will check them against the internal size and board thickness before you commit.
These are also the sizes most buyers pick for CNY food hampers, where the box has to hold sealed food packs without crushing them.
Red, orange, and the print
Red and orange are the two standard colours. Gold foil is the usual finish for a Chinese New Year box: it holds on uncoated red board, where white ink tends to sink in and go pink.
Logos, lantern patterns and greeting lines are all printed to your artwork. The peony and good luck designs on this page are stock samples, not a fixed range, and get replaced when you send your own design.
These boxes sit alongside the rest of our custom gift boxes, so a hamper and its paper bag can be printed on the same run and matched in colour.
Ordering, samples and lead time
- Sample — 3 to 5 working days, plain or printed.
- Production — 10 to 15 working days after artwork approval. Longer in peak season.
- Sea freight, LCL — 16 to 30 days door to door to Singapore or Port Klang.
- Approval to arrival — five to nine weeks in total.
Chinese New Year 2027 falls on 6 February. Counting back, custom boxes need artwork approved by mid-December at the latest. After that, air freight is the only option and the cost per box changes completely.
The same timing applies to mooncake boxes and other festival packaging, which share the same production line and the same peak-season queue.
FAQ
What sizes do these cube gift boxes come in?
Three standard outer sizes: 205 × 205 × 200 mm, 230 × 230 × 225 mm and 250 × 250 × 260 mm. Custom sizes are cut to your dieline, but the cube proportion is what keeps the box standing square once filled.
Can the boxes be shipped flat and folded later?
Yes. Every order ships flat-packed and is folded by hand before filling. A carton holds several times more flat boxes than assembled ones, which is the main reason the delivered cost per box stays low.
What fits in a 205 mm cube?
Around 1 kg of bak kwa in sealed packs, two or three cookie tubs, or tea tins with snacks around them. For a full hamper with a bottle, go up to the 230 or 250 mm size.
Can I print my logo and use a different colour?
Yes. Offset printing in CMYK or Pantone, gold foil stamping on the lid and sides, and ribbon printed to match. Red and orange are standard; other colours are matched to your Pantone reference.
How long does a Chinese New Year order take?
Sample in 3 to 5 working days, production in 10 to 15 working days after approval, then 16 to 30 days by LCL sea freight. Five to nine weeks from approval to arrival, so approve artwork by mid-December for the February holiday.
